MLB: San Francisco 2, Philadelphia 1

PHILADELPHIA, July 27 (UPI) -- Matt Cain outdueled Cole Hamels over seven innings Wednesday, giving up four hits and helping carry the San Francisco Giants to a 2-1 win over Philadelphia.

The division leaders and potential playoff opponents have split the first two games of a three-game series.

Cain (9-6) gave up only an unearned run in the seventh when his fielding error allowed Shane Victorino to reach leading off the inning. Victorino later scored on a single by Domonic Brown.

Javier Lopez protected the lead in the eighth and Brian Wilson came on in the ninth to collect his 32nd save. Wilson came into the game tied for the major league save lead with Atlanta's Craig Kimbrel.

Hamels (12-6) suffered his second loss in six starts. He allowed two runs on six hits with six strikeouts in 7 2/3 innings.

The San Francisco runs were driven in on an Aaron Rowand triple in the third and a Nate Schierholtz double in the seventh.
