MLB: Kansas City 3, Boston 1 (14 innings)

BOSTON, July 26 (UPI) -- Eric Hosmer doubled in the 14th inning and came around to score on a squeeze bunt Monday in the Kansas City Royals' marathon 3-1 victory over Boston.

Hosmer lined a two-base hit off Randy Williams (0-1), went to third on Jeff Francoeur's single and scored when Mike Aviles bunted over the head of Bosox first baseman Adrian Gonzalez, breaking a 1-1 tie.

Francoeur later came around to score an insurance run on Brayan Pena's single and a sacrifice fly by Alcides Escobar, and the Royals finally emerged with a win in a rain-delayed game that ended at 2 a.m.

Louis Coleman (1-2) earned the win after tossing two scoreless frames and Joakim Soria wrapped up in the bottom of the 14th with his 18th save.

Dustin Pedroia extended his career-best hitting streak to 22 games and Josh Reddick went 3-for-6 with an RBI for Boston, which saw its American League East lead over the Yankees shaved to two games.
