Fish rallies to best Isner in Atlanta

ATLANTA, July 24 (UPI) -- Mardy Fish rebounded from facing a match point in the second set Sunday to overcome John Isner for the Atlanta Tennis Championships title.

Fish bested his fellow American in the Atlanta final for the second straight year, this time in come-from-behind fashion with a 3-6, 7-6 (8-6), 6-2 victory.

Isner had a win practically in hand while going for the championship point with a 6-5 lead in the second-set tiebreaker, but he was long on a backhander and Fish used the opportunity to start a long comeback.

Fish proceeded to win the next two points and twice broke Isner's serve in the third set to win his sixth career title, improving to 3-0 against his countryman on hard courts.

Isner, who was seeking his second title in two events after winning in Newport previously this month, saw his eight-match win streak snapped.
