Three charged in beating of baseball fan

LOS ANGELES, July 22 (UPI) -- Police charged three suspects Friday in the beating of a San Francisco Giants fan who suffered major injuries while attending a Giants-Los Angeles Dodgers game.

Marvin Norwood, Louie Sanchez and Dorene Sanchez were all charged in the case and, if convicted, face as much as nine years in prison. The arrests came after Los Angeles police cleared their original suspect, Giovanni Ramirez.

He was on parole when arrested, but was never charged.

Police said witnesses came forward to clear Ramirez and provide details about the three people who were charged Friday.

The fan, Bryan Stow, was critically injured in the attack outside Dodger Stadium following the opening game of the season. He was placed in a medically-induced coma and eventually transferred to San Francisco May 16.

Stow, 42, underwent emergency surgery this week because of a fluid buildup near his brain that caused a seizure.
