ALPHARETTA, Ga., July 20 (UPI) -- Former NFL quarterback Kordell Stewart has pleaded guilty to traffic charges after being arrested on an outstanding warrant in Georgia, authorities said.

The former Pittsburgh Steeler was arrested in Alpharetta in May after he was stopped for driving over the speed limit and driving with a suspended license, WSB-TV, Atlanta, reported.

Steward was arrested after a check showed a warrant from Conyers, Ga., the newspaper said.

"I had a hiccup, a slip-up, like we all do sometimes," Stewart said Tuesday outside the Alpharetta Municipal Court. "Got caught, so now I've got to pay my fine and take care of it and move forward."

The outstanding warrant, he said, was for forgetting to appear in court in Conyers for a citation issued because the windows on his vehicle were too tinted.

Steward said he was humiliated by the arrest.

"It was one of the most embarrassing moments of my life because it was something that caught me completely off guard," he said.

Stewart pleaded guilty to a speeding charge and a charge of driving with an expired license and was sentenced to a six-hour driving course.

"Because of my position and people knowing me, I'm not above the law," he said. "I have to abide by it like everyone else does."
