PITTSBURGH, July 19 (UPI) -- James McDonald and three Pittsburgh relievers teamed up for a six-hit shutout and Tuesday and the first-place Pirates edged Cincinnati 1-0.

McDonald (6-4) tossed 6 1/3 scoreless innings, scattering four hits while walking three and striking out seven, as the Pirates clinched their three-game set against the Reds -- their seventh straight series win against a National League Central Division rival.

Joe Beimel and Chris Resop combined for 1 2/3 shutout innings of relief and Joel Hanrahan racked up his 28th save despite allowing a pair of hits in the ninth.

Andrew McCutchen drove in the game's only run with a first-inning groundout.

Mike Leake (8-5) took the hard-luck loss for the Reds, yielding only one run on two hits over six innings.
