NEW YORK, July 19 (UPI) -- Dillon Gee held the Cardinals to two runs over seven innings Tuesday, pacing the New York Mets to a 4-2 victory over St. Louis.
Gee (9-3) yielded only three hits while walking two and fanning two, benefiting from a pair of double plays.
Bobby Parnell tossed a scoreless eighth inning and Jason Isringhausen picked up his first save since 2008 with a 1-2-3 ninth for the Mets, who took the first of a three-game series against St. Louis.
Angel Pagan and Daniel Murphy each stroked two-run doubles to supply the Mets' offense.
All-star shortstop Jose Reyes returned from the disabled list with a pair of hits for New York.
Kyle Lohse (8-7) was tagged with the loss after giving up 10 hits in 5 2/3 innings, allowing four runs as the Cardinals fell 1 1/2 games behind first-place Pittsburgh in the NL Central.
Lance Berkman socked a solo homer for the Cards.
