Soderling bests Ferrer for 2nd Sweden win

BASTAD, Sweden, July 17 (UPI) -- Sweden's Robin Soderling came through for the home crowd Sunday, defeating second-seeded David Ferrer to become a two-time Swedish Open champion.

Soderling, the world's fifth-ranked player and top seed in Bastad, won in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2, improving to 10-4 against his Spanish opponent.

Soderling gained the Swedish Open final for the third straight year. He defeated Juan Monaco in 2009 and was last year's runner-up to Nicolas Almagro.

The Swede upped his record in finals this year to 4-0 following victories in Brisbane, Rotterdam and Marseille, and improved to 10-10 all time in championship matches.

World No. 6 Ferrer was seeking his third title of 2011.
