Medina Garrigues takes 5th Palermo title

PALERMO, Italy, July 17 (UPI) -- Anabel Medina Garrigues of Spain took home her fifth Palermo International title Sunday, dispatching Polona Hercog in the championship final.

Of Medina Garrigues' 11 career WTA titles, five of them have come in the Sicilian city.

She bested the seventh-seeded Hercog of Slovenia 6-3, 6-2, winning 62 percent of her first-serve points en route to her first Palermo win since 2006.

Medina Garrigues also won the event in 2001, 2004 and 2005.

Hercog, meanwhile, was looking for her second straight championship after taking last week's Swedish Open.
