Tipsarevic puts Serbia in Davis semifinals

HALMSTED, Sweden, July 10 (UPI) -- Janko Tipsarevic's win over Michael Ryderstedt in the first reverse-singles match Sunday handed Serbia a Davis Cup quarterfinals victory over Sweden.

Tipsarevic bested Ryderstedt in straight sets, 6-2, 7-5, 6-3, giving the defending champions an insurmontable 3-1 lead in the best-of-five Davis Cup match.

The Serb converted 6-of-13 break points and smacked 33 winners in a match that lasted just over two hours.

He and Viktor Troicki had won singles matches Friday, but Sweden hung on with doubles win Saturday.

Serbia will continue its quest for a second straight Davis Cup championship in September's semifinals against Argentina, which won its quarterfinal match against Kazakhstan Sunday.
