MLB: New York Yankees 1, Tampa Bay 0

NEW YORK, July 10 (UPI) -- CC Sabathia tossed a four-hit shutout for his 13th win Sunday and the New York Yankees scored an unearned run to edge Tampa Bay 1-0.

Sabathia (13-4) issued only one walk and struck out nine a dominating performance, becoming the first major league pitcher to reach 13 wins this season.

The Yankees' ace lowered his ERA to 2.72 with his 12th career whitewash.

The left-hander was named to Tuesday's All-Star Game to replace Tampa Bay's Sunday starter, James Shields, but because he also pitched on Sunday was left off the roster due to Major League Baseball rules.

Sabathia was replaced on the American League team by Texas Rangers pitcher Alexi Ogando.

The Yankees scored the only run of the game in the seventh when Robinson Cano led off with a single, went to third on B.J. Upton's error and scored the game's only run on an errant pickoff throw by losing pitcher Shields, trying to catch Cano drifting off third base in the bottom of the seventh.

The first-place Yankees took the rubber match of a rain-shortened three-game series with Tampa.

Shields (8-7) also logged a complete-game four-hitter in the Rays' loss, yielding only the one unearned run while walking one and fanning five.
