Haas fires 65, grabs First Tee Open lead

MONTEREY, Calif., July 9 (UPI) -- Jay Haas, a two-time runner-up at the First Tee Open, carded a 7-under-par 65 Saturday to forge a two-stroke lead after two rounds of the Champions Tour event.

Haas completed 36 holes at 11-under 133, two shots ahead of a trio of competitors. He played Saturday's second round at Pebble Beach Golf Links following Friday's round at Del Monte Golf Course.

The senior pros were paired with amateurs from the First Tee program in the first two rounds of the event.

Brad Bryant shot a 4-under 68 at Pebble Beach to force a three-way tie for second place at minus-9 with Bobby Clampett (66) and Mark Brooks (64), both of whom played their second rounds at Del Monte.

Two-time winner Russ Cochran led after the first round, but tumbled into a tie for fifth place at minus-8 after firing a 1-under 71 at Del Monte
