Busch wins shootout in 1st Kentucky race

SPARTA, Ky., July 9 (UPI) -- Kyle Busch christened Sprint Cup racing at Kentucky Speedway Saturday, emerging with a win after two-lap shootout in the inaugural Quaker State 400.

Busch, who started on the pole, held off David Reutimann and Jimmie Johnson in final two laps, finishing 0.18 seconds ahead of Reutimann for his third Sprint Cup victory of the season and the 22nd of his career.

Busch cruised with the lead for 125 laps had to win in a shootout after an accident involving Clint Bowyer in the race's late stages.

Johnson settled for third while Ryan Newman and Carl Edwards rounded out the Top 5.

Busch took a four-point lead over Carl Edward in the Sprint Cup standings with the win.
