Zakopalova among Budapest winners

BUDAPEST, Hungary, July 4 (UPI) -- Third-seeded Klara Zakopalova and No. 5 Anabel Medina Garrigues were among the first-round winners Monday at the Budapest Grand Prix.

Zakopalova, of the Czech Republic, handled China's Xinyun 6-0, 6-2 on the red clay at Romai Tennis Academy.

Spain's Medina Garrigues, meanwhile, defeated Russian Anastasia Pivovarova 6-3, 6-1.

Another seeded player also moved on to the round of 16 Monday -- No. 7 Romanian Irina-Camilia Begu, who prevailed over Spaniard Laura Pous Tio, 6-4, 6-4.

Eighth-seeded Russian Evgeniya Rodina, however, wasn't so lucky. She fell in a mild upset to Belarusian Olga Savchuk, 3-6, 6-1, 6-1.

Croat Ajla Tomljanovic and Ukrainian Alona Bondarenko also emerged with wins Monday.
