WASHINGTON, July 2 (UPI) -- Carlos Ruiz scored the equalizer in the 84th minute Saturday, boosting the Philadelphia Union into a 2-2 draw against D.C. United.
Philadelphia's Sheanon Williams sent the ball inside the area, setting up Ruiz, and the striker came through by placing a shot inside the left post.
The Union (7-4-6) also got a goal in the 49th minute when United's Perry Kitchen redirected a cross from Philadelphia's Veljko Paunovic into his own net -- an own-goal that enabled the Union to forge a brief 1-1 tie.
Andy Najar, however, gave United (4-5-7) the advantage again only 9 minutes later. He unleashed a stunning shot from 35 feet that eluded Philadelphia netminder Faryd Mondragon.
United surrendered a lead in the final 10 minutes for the second straight match after similarly drawing with Houston last weekend.
