MLB: Washington 4, Pittsburgh 3 (2nd game)

WASHINGTON, July 2 (UPI) -- Ivan Rodriguez singled home the go-ahead run Saturday, propelling the Washington Nationals to a 4-3 win over Pittsburgh in Game 2 of a doubleheader.

The Nationals rallied from a 3-2 deficit in the eighth inning with a pair of runs, salvaging a split after losing the day's first game 5-3.

Tony Watson (0-1) hit Michael Morse with a pitch to lead off the eighth and pinch runner Brian Bixler went to second on a one-out walk to Rick Ankiel.

Bixler took off for third on a steal attempt and would have been out but the throw from Pirates catcher Eric Fryer one-hopped third baseman Brandon Wood for an error, allowing the score-tying run to score.

Rodriquez then lined an 0-2 pitch to right field and Ankiel slid home with the go-ahead score after Fryer couldn't hold onto the throw from the outfield.

Ryan Mattheus (1-0) earned his first major league win with a scoreless eighth inning and Drew Storen collected his 20th save for the Nationals.

Andrew McCutchen went 3-for-4 with an RBI double and Chase d'Arnaud added a run-scoring single, for the Pirates.
