MLB: Seattle 6, San Diego 0

SEATTLE, July 2 (UPI) -- Jason Vargas threw his third shutout of the season Friday, striking out seven and allowing six hits in boosting the Seattle Mariners over San Diego 6-0.

Only Philadelphia's Cliff Lee, with four, has more shutouts than Vargas this year. Vargas (6-5) did not walk a batter while throwing 106 pitches.

The Mariners snapped a three-game losing streak and the Padres suffered their first loss in five contests.

Adam Kennedy, Jack Cust and Carlos Peguero each drove in two runs. Kennedy had an RBI single in the first and doubled home the final Seattle run in the sixth.

Cust drew a bases-loaded walk in the third and delivered an RBI double in the fifth. Peguero singled home both Kennedy and Justin Smoak in the third.

Dustin Moseley (2-8) was charged with the loss. He allowed five runs, only two of which were earned, on seven hits in 4 2/3 innings.
