ANAHEIM, Calif., June 29 (UPI) -- Dan Haren gave up two hits over 7 1/3 innings Wednesday and outdueled Jordan Zimmermann to bring the Los Angeles Angels a 1-0 win over Washington.
The game's only run was unearned and scored on a double play.
Zimmermann (5-7) went the distance for the first time in a career that now spans 39 starts. He gave up only four hits, but the Nationals were swept in the three-game series.
They came into the series with the Angels having won 13 of 15 and embroiled in a controversy surrounding the resignation of Manager Jim Riggleman in a dispute with management.
Davey Johnson, who assumed the managerial position with the Nationals on Monday, is still looking for his first Washington win.
Haren (8-5) struck out six, walked one and hit a batter. He gave up a bunt single in the fourth to Brian Bixler and a one-out single to Ivan Rodriguez in the eighth.
Scott Downs came on to get the final two outs in the eighth and Jordan Walden survived a one-out double in the ninth to pick up his 18th save.
The lone run came in the fourth when Bobby Abreu drew a lead-off walk and moved to third on a throwing error by third baseman Ryan Zimmerman. Howard Kendrick then grounded into a double play that allowed Abreu to score the unearned run.
