Vettel cruises to European Grand Prix win

VALENCIA, Spain, June 26 (UPI) -- Sebastian Vettel cruised to his sixth win in the year's first eight Formula One races Sunday, dominating the European Grand Prix in Spain.

The defending world champion started with the pole position and led all but one of the 57 laps on the 3.367-mile street circuit in Valencia.

The 23-year-old German finished 10.8 seconds ahead of Spain's Fernando Alonso and relinquished the lead only once, while making the first of his three pit stops.

Vettel used his latest victory to pad his points lead, improving to a 77-point advantage over Red Bull teammate Mark Webber and McLaren's Jenson Button.

Alonso beat out Webber for second place after the Red Bull driver was slowed downed during his final pit stop.

McLaren's Lewis Hamilton claimed fourth place and Felipe Massa finished fifth.
