MLB: Kansas City 3, Chicago Cubs 2

KANSAS CITY, Mo., June 25 (UPI) -- Chris Getz drove in the go-ahead run with an infield single Saturday, handing the Kansas City Royals a 3-2 interleague win over the Chicago Cubs.

The Royals put runners on second and third with two outs in the eighth inning of a 2-2 game thanks to a pair of walks by Jeff Samardzija (5-4) and a passed ball by catcher Geovany Soto.

Getz then sent a sharp grounder past the mound that Samardzija deflected with his pitching hand. The change in direction fooled shortstop Starlin Castro, whose off-balance throw to first wasn't in time for the out as Jeff Francoeur crossed the plate with the tiebreaking run.

Joakim Soria pitched a scoreless ninth, earning his 12th save, and Greg Holland (2-1) got credit for the victory with a 1-2-3 top of the eighth for the Royals, who evened their three-game series against the Cubs.

Kansas City starter Danny Duffy held the Cubs to two runs on nine hits through seven frames.

Carlos Zambrano, meanwhile, also went seven innings, yielding two runs on eight hits for Chicago.

Soto and Aramis Ramirez clouted solo homers to account for the Cubs' offense.
