MLS: Seattle 4, New York 2

SEATTLE, June 24 (UPI) -- A header by Roger Levesque in the 67th minute gave Seattle the lead Thursday and the Sounders went on to down New York 4-2.

Seattle let an early two-goal lead get away, but Levesque scored twice down the stretch to push the Sounders into a tie with Dallas for second place in the Western Conference.

New York lost for the first time in seven games and remained deadlocked with Philadelphia atop the East.

Erik Friberg and Osvaldo Alonso scored in the span of 2 minutes early in the game, but the Sounders lost that cushion thanks in part to Seattle's Zach Scott putting the ball into his own net in the 58th minute.

That own goal tied it at 2-2, but Levesque put the Sounders back in front from close range after taking a crossing pass from Leonardo Gonzalez.

Levesque's second goal came in the 78th minute.

Seattle improved to 7-4-7, running its unbeaten streak to five games. New York fell to 5-3-8, losing for the first time since May 15.

New York played without Thierry Henry, who was suspended for the game because of a red card he received in his previous contest.
