MLB: San Francisco 5, Minnesota 1

SAN FRANCISCO, June 23 (UPI) -- Eli Whiteside drove in three runs and Ryan Vogelsong went seven strong innings Wednesday in the San Francisco Giants' 5-1 win over Minnesota.

Whiteside drove in two runs with a one-out triple in the second inning and then delivered an RBI single in the sixth for the Giants, who handed the Twins their first loss in nine games -- and just their third setback in their last 17 games.

The teams have split the first two games of a three-game interleague series.

Vogelsong (5-1) held Minnesota to three hits -- including an RBI single by Aubrey Huff -- while striking out three and walking one. Javier Lopez, Sergio Romo and Brian Wilson combined for two shutout innings to preserve the win for San Francisco, which broke a five-game losing streak.

Twins starter Nick Blackburn (6-5) went six innings, allowing three runs on four hits, striking out four and walking three.
