KANSAS CITY, Mo., June 23 (UPI) -- Daniel Hudson and two relievers limited Kansas City to six hits Thursday and the Arizona Diamondbacks completed a series sweep with a 5-3 win over the Royals.
Juan Miranda and Miguel Montero both homered for the Diamondbacks, who remained deadlocked with San Francisco at the top of the National League West.
Hudson (9-5) has a 6-0 record in his last eight starts. He gave up three runs on six hits in seven innings, and Aaron Heilman and J.J. Putz combined to retire the final six batters in order. Putz picked up his 20th save.
Chris Young put Arizona in front for good with a two-run single in the first and Arizona added a single run in each of the next three innings.
Montero hit a homer in the second, Stephen Drew doubled home a run in the third and Miranda produced his home run in the fourth.
Kansas City lost its fifth straight game and has dropped seven out of eight.
The loss went to Felipe Paulino (0-5), who allowed five runs on nine hits in eight-plus innings.
