St. Peter's gives coach contract extension

JERSEY CITY, N.J., June 22 (UPI) -- John Dunne, who helped St. Peter's to its first NCAA tournament appearance in 16 years, has been given a contract extension as the school's basketball coach.

Dunne last season led the Peacocks to their first Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference title and NCAA tournament appearance since 1995 and first 20-win season since 1990-91.

He has a five-year record of 58-96 at St. Peter's; 47 of the wins have come the last two seasons.

"John has done an excellent job of rebuilding the men's basketball program over the past five years," said St. Peter's Athletic Director Patrick Elliott. "Throughout his tenure, he has guided our student-athletes to success both on the court and in the classroom."

Dunne was given a contract extension through the 2015-16 season. Financial aspects of the deal weren't released.
