BOSTON, June 20 (UPI) -- Adrian Gonzalez went 3-for-5 with three RBI and the Boston Red Sox scored 10 runs in the seventh inning Monday, routing San Diego 14-5 in an interleague game.
The Red Sox broke open a 3-3 tie game with the huge inning, in which they sent 13 men to the plate, collecting five hits and four walks and scoring twice when the Padres' Ernesto Frieri hit two consecutive batters with the bases loaded.
Gonzalez stroked a two-run single and Kevin Youkilis drove in two run with a double in the frame as the American League East-leading Red Sox improved to 14-3 in June and won the first contest of a three-game set.
David Ortiz and Josh Reddick drove in a pair of runs each and Matt Albers (2-3) picked up the victory with 1 1/3 scoreless frames for Boston.
Frieri and Evan Scribner each yielded four runs in the seventh while Cory Luebke (1-2) was tagged with the defeat for the Padres, who lost their sixth straight and ninth in 10 games.
Orlando Hudson smacked a three-run homer among his three hits and Chase Headley added four hits for San Diego.
