MLS: Vancouver 1, Philadelphia 0

VANCOUVER, British Columbia, June 19 (UPI) -- Alain Rochat's goal in the 12th minute Saturday handed the Vancouver Whitecaps a 1-0 decision over Philadelphia, their first win in nearly three months.

Rochat got hold of a pass from Davide Chiumiento and booted a perfect swerving shot from outside the box that made its way past Union goalie Faryd Mondragon for the game's only goal.

The win gave expansion Vancouver (2-6-8) its first victory in 15 games dating back to its March 19 season opener and MLS debut. The skid tied a league record for the longest in a single season.

Tom Soehn replaced Teitur Thordarson as head coach late last month, and the Whitecaps improved to 1-1-2 under his regime.

Philadelphia, meanwhile, fell to 6-4-4 with the loss.
