SANDY, Utah, June 19 (UPI) -- Charlie Davies converted a penalty kick in the 80th minute Saturday, allowing D.C. United to salvage a 1-1 draw against Real Salt Lake.

A foul was called against Real's Chris Wingert when Davies went down while driving into the right side of the penalty area, even though there are appeared to be little or no contact.

Davies, however, was awarded the penalty kick even though Real's players claimed diving on the play. His kick went into the lower-left corner, sneaking past Salt Lake goalie Nick Rimando.

D.C. (4-5-5) almost won it as time was expiring, but Chris Pontius hit the crossbar for the second time in the game.

Fabian Espindola converted a penalty kick in the first half for Salt Lake (6-3-4).
