Red Sox place Crawford on disabled list

BOSTON, June 18 (UPI) -- The Boston Red Sox said Saturday they have placed left fielder Carl Crawford on the disabled list with a hamstring strain.

Crawford was diagnosed with the injury after leaving Friday's 10-4 Boston win over Milwaukee following an infield hit in the first inning.

"The medical people thought at best that it was going to be 10-to-14 days," Red Sox Manager Terry Francona told The Boston Globe. "So that was kind of a no-brainer."

The Red Sox recalled outfielder Josh Reddick from Class AAA Pawtucket to replace Crawford on the roster.
