Aegon tennis semifinals postponed by rain

EASTBOURNE, England, June 17 (UPI) -- Rain led to the postponement of the women's semifinals at the Aegon International tennis tournament in England.

Tournament officials said they will try to get in both the semifinals and finals Saturday. Weather has been an issue through the week at the tournament.

The event needs to wrap up Saturday so players can proceed to the Wimbledon championships, which begin Monday. Three of the players remaining are seeded in the Top 10 and the other is No. 25-seeded Daniela Hantuchova.

No. 6-seeded Marion Bartoli and seventh-seeded Samantha Stosur are matched in one semifinal and Hantuchova is to go against fifth-seeded Petra Kvitova in the other.

The tournament champion will collect $103,000 and the runner-up earns $54,000. The semifinals losers will take home $29,000 each.
