Petzschner retires, Kohlschreiber logs win

HALLE, Germany, June 12 (UPI) -- Philipp Kohlschreiber emerged with a victory at the Gerry Weber Open Sunday after Philipp Petzschner retired in the second set.

Kohlschreiber was ahead after winning the first set 7-6 (7-5) in what promised to be an exciting, all-German final in Halle. But Petzschner pulled out after Kohlschreiber went up 2-0 in the second set.

Kohlschreiber thus won his third career title and first since January 2008. He also made the Gerry Weber final in 2008 when he lost to Roger Federer.

Petzschner, meanwhile, was appearing in only his second career ATP final. He defeated Gael Monfils in his other appearance, winning the Vienna crown in October 2008.
