BARCELONA, Spain, June 3 (UPI) -- The 2012 Formula One racing calendar will include a U.S. Grand Prix, the first time since 2007 the circuit is to race in the United States.
The U.S. Grand Prix was inserted in the June 17 slot and will be run at Austin, Texas. The track in Austin is currently under construction. A year ago Formula One officials said the U.S. Grand Prix would be run in Austin through 2021.
The 2012 Formula One season is to open March 11 in Bahrain. That was to be the site of the 2011 opener but civil unrest in Bahrain led organizers to postpone the race. It was announced this week that it had been rescheduled for Oct. 30.
The 2012 finale is to be Nov. 25 in Brazil.
One major shift next year from the 2011 calendar has the Korean Grand Prix, to be run Oct. 16 this year, moving to April 22 next year, two weeks after the Chinese Grand Prix.
The International Automobile Federation, Formula One's governing body, approved the 21-race calendar for next year during Friday's World Motor Sport Council meeting in Barcelona.
