MLB: Boston 14, Detroit 1 (8 innings)

DETROIT, May 26 (UPI) -- Carl Crawford had his second consecutive four-hit game and the Boston Red Sox powered their way to a 14-1 rain-shortened win Thursday over the Detroit Tigers.

The game was called in the bottom of the eighth because of rain. Boston had scored five times in the top of the inning to reach the 14-run mark for the second straight game. The Red Sox beat the Cleveland Indians 14-2 Wednesday.

Crawford went 4-for-4 with two runs batted in and three scored in that game. He came back with a 4-for-5 day with three RBI and two scored Thursday.

Alfredo Aceves (2-0) gave up one run on five hits and two walks in six innings to get the victory. He also struck out six.

The Red Sox battered Detroit starter Max Scherzer (6-2) for seven runs in just two-plus innings.

Boston scored five times in the second, with Drew Sutton doubling in one and Josh Reddick singling in Crawford before Jacoby Ellsbury hit a three-run home run.

Crawford had a two-run triple in the third that chased Scherzer.

Alex Avila had an RBI single in the fourth for the Detroit run, but Boston added single runs in the sixth and seventh -- Crawford had another RBI triple in the seventh. The Red Sox' five-run eighth included a single by Reddick that scored Crawford and Drew Sutton.
