MLB: Houston 2, Los Angeles Dodgers 1

HOUSTON, May 25 (UPI) -- J.R. Towles smacked a game-winning single in the bottom of the ninth Wednesday, lifting the Houston Astros to a 2-1 win over the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Brett Wallace connected for a one-out double off Matt Guerrier (2-3) in the ninth and, after Brian Bogusevic came in to run for him, Towles solidly lined a pitch into center field to drive in the game-winner.

The key hit gave a victory to Mark Melancon (4-1), who tossed a scoreless top of the ninth as the Astros took the rubber match of a three-game series against the Dodgers.

Houston starter Aneury Rodriguez yielded only one run on four hits over six innings, garnering a no-decision.

Ted Lilly also pitched well for Los Angeles, limiting the Astros to a single run on six hits in a six-inning start.

Matt Kemp went 3-for-4 with a solo homer for the struggling Dodgers, who lost for the ninth time in 12 games.
