LAPD nabs stadium beating suspect

LOS ANGELES, May 22 (UPI) -- A suspect in the bashing of a San Francisco Giants fan at Dodger Stadium was arrested by SWAT officers Sunday, Los Angeles police said.

Police Chief Charlie Beck said a 31-year-old man identified as Giovanni Ramirez of Los Angeles was booked on charges of assault with a deadly weapon and was being held on $1 million bond in the March 31 beating of Bryan Stow.

Beck told reporters at a Sunday news conference at Dodger Stadium police made the arrest thanks to a tip from a parole officer.

Calling the arrest of Ramirez a "significant, significant break," Beck said, "I believe we have the right guy."

Stow was left with a serious head injury when attacked in the parking lot of the stadium after the Opening Day game between the Giants and Dodgers.

The Los Angeles Times said Stow, who was recently moved to San Francisco General Hospital, remained in critical condition.

Lt. Rick Stabile of the LAPD Northeast Division told reporters police tactical teams stormed an East Hollywood apartment early Sunday armed with search warrants for two men, one of whom was suspected in Stow's beating and another who was wanted as a witness.
