STRASBOURG, France, May 21 (UPI) -- Andrea Petkovic of Germany won the Strasbourg International Saturday when opponent Marion Bartoli threw in the towel due to injury.

The French star complained of a thigh problem in the second set and left with Petkovic leading in the match 6-4, 1-0.

Bartoli, ranked 11th in the world, is seeded 11th at the French Open; it was not immediately known if the injury was serious enough to prevent her from playing.

Petkovic is ranked 15th in the world and seeded 16th at the Open. She won her second career WTA and first since 2009. She was seeded second at Strasbourg.
