NEW YORK, May 18 (UPI) -- New York Mets third baseman David Wright was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a lower back stress fracture Wednesday, the team said.

The decision was made after an X-ray computed tomography scan Tuesday night confirmed an earlier test that spotted the damage.

The Mets made the move retroactive to May 16.

Wright will not take part in any baseball-related activities for 10 days and then will be re-evaluated at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City.

Wright, 28, is hitting .226 this season with six home runs and 18 RBI in 39 games.

The Mets called up infielder Nick Evans from Class AAA Buffalo to take Wright's roster spot. Evans was hitting .248 with five homers and 16 RBI in 36 games with Buffalo.
