Jason Bay had a sacrifice fly in the first inning and Niese protected the one-run advantage until Justin Turner provided some insurance with a two-run double in the sixth.

The loss went to Tom Gorzelanny (2-3), who allowed three runs on eight hits with seven strikeouts in 5 2/3 innings. The Nationals had won their previous two contests.
