MLB: San Diego 9, Colorado 7

DENVER, May 14 (UPI) -- Former Rocky Brad Hawpe smacked a tie-breaking, two-run homer in the ninth inning for San Diego Saturday, handing the Padres a 9-7 win over Colorado.

Hawpe, who played for the Rockies from 2004 until he was released last season, came back to haunt his former mates by blasting a 2-2 pitch from Colorado closer Huston Street (0-1) into the right field stands, breaking a 7-7 deadlock.

Hawpe finished 3-for-5 with three runs scored and Eric Patterson delivered a game-tying, two-run single in the eighth for San Diego, which charged back from a 7-1 deficit.

The clout made a winner of Mike Adams (2-0), who hurled a scoreless bottom of the eighth. Heath Bell notched his ninth save to close out the Padres' victory, which evened their three-game series at one win apiece.

Carlos Gonzalez and Todd Helton each hit solo homers for the first-place Rockies.
