DENVER, May 12 (UPI) -- Carlos Beltran smashed three two-run homers Thursday to account for half of New York's hits and power the Mets to a 9-5 victory over Colorado.
Beltran became the eighth player in franchise history to hit three home runs in a game. His six RBI boosted New York to its fifth win in seven games.
The home runs came in the first, seventh and ninth innings and gave Beltran seven for the season. Jose Reyes contributed a two-run single during a three-run fourth that left the Mets with a 5-1 lead.
The long ball display allowed Jon Niese (2-4) to pick up a victory despite giving up five runs on seven hits over 6 1/3 innings.
Ubaldo Jimenez (0-3) suffered the loss, surrendering five runs on three hits in 3 2/3 innings.
Colorado suffered its sixth setback in seven outings.
The game had originally been scheduled for Wednesday, but was postponed due to a mix of rain and snow. Showers delayed Thursday's contest at the start for more than 2 hours.
