MLB: Kansas City 11, New York Yankees 5

NEW YORK, May 12 (UPI) -- Eric Hosmer continued the tremendous start to his major league career Thursday with a homer and two RBI, helping Kansas City club the New York Yankees 11-5.

In six career big league games since being called up last week, the rookie first baseman has a .333 batting average with two home runs, five RBI and five walks. He hit a solo homer to ignite a six-run second against the Yankees and also doubled home a run in the sixth.

The Royals pounded out 16 hits and handed the Yankees their sixth loss in nine games.

Melky Cabrera also had a solo homer for Kansas City and both Billy Butler and Alcides Escobar had two RBI.

The win went to Sean O'Sullivan, who retired the first 13 men he faced before giving up a home run to Robinson Cano in the fifth. O'Sullivan (2-2) eventually allowed four runs on six hits in 6 2/3 innings.

New York starter Ivan Nova (3-3) was roughed up for eight runs on 10 hits in three-plus innings.
