MLB: Detroit 9, Minnesota 7

MINNEAPOLIS, May 11 (UPI) -- Brandon Inge smacked a go-ahead RBI triple for Detroit in the ninth inning Wednesday and the Tigers went on to a 9-7 win over Minnesota.

With the score tied 7-7 entering their final at-bat, the Tigers scored twice against Twins closer Matt Capps (1-2) to emerge with the win and sweep a two-game series at Target Field.

Ramon Santiago collected a one-out single and Inge followed by blasting a pitch to the base of the right-center field wall that eluded Denard Span, chasing Santiago home with the go-ahead run.

Inge then came in to score on a perfectly executed squeeze bunt laid down by Austin Jackson. Jose Valverde closed the door in the bottom of the ninth for his eighth save.

Joaquin Benoit (1-2) was credited with the win despite allowing a score-tying RBI double to Matt Tolbert in the bottom of the eighth.

Jhonny Peralta belted a two-run homer off Capps in the top of the frame, giving Detroit a brief 7-6 lead, and Victor Martinez went 3-for-4 with three RBI and solo shot for the Tigers.
