MLB: Oakland 7, Texas 2

ARLINGTON, Texas, May 9 (UPI) -- Josh Willingham belted a three-run homer en route to a five-RBI performance Monday, powering the Oakland Athletics to a 7-2 win over Texas.

Willingham, who was slapped with a one-game suspension and a fine from Major League Baseball before the game, responded with a big night. The outfielder's third-inning homer put the A's ahead to stay and he added a two-run single in the eighth.

Willingham appealed the suspension -- assessed for making contact with an umpire while protesting a called third strike Saturday -- and was allowed to play in Monday's contest.

Trevor Cahill (6-0) tied the major league lead in wins with his sixth straight victory, yielding only one run on five hits over seven frames while issuing one walk and fanning seven.

The Rangers' C.J. Wilson (4-2) was tagged for five runs on just two hits in a seven-inning start.

Mitch Moreland knocked a solo homer for Texas, which fell to 2-7 in May.
