Aiken notches first European Tour win

TERRASSA, Spain, May 8 (UPI) -- Thomas Aiken pulled away early Sunday and cruised in for his first European Tour victory with a win at the Spanish Open.

Aiken shot 2-under-70 Sunday and finished the tournament at 10-under 278, two strokes ahead of Anders Hansen, who had a birdie on the final hole to finish alone in second.

Scott Jamieson and Pablo Larrazabal, who started the day tied with Hansen two strokes off Aiken's lead, both shot 1-under 71 Sunday and tied for third.

Another six golfers tied for fifth at 6-under 282.

Hansen was 2-under after 12 holes Sunday but had a bogey at No. 13 to fall back but took second alone with the birdie at 18 for a final-round of 2-under.

Jamieson had back-to-back bogeys at Nos. 4-5 but got back into a tie for second with consecutive birdies at 14 and 15 until Hansen's closing birdie. Larrazabal, who had a 6 at the par-4 fourth hole, used a birdie at No. 18 to claim his share of second place.

But that wasn't enough to cut into the lead Aiken had built in the first three rounds. He pushed further ahead with birdies Sunday at Nos. 2 and 6 and, with birdies at 11 and 14 offsetting bogeys at 13 and 15, toured the second nine at even.
