Aiken moves into lead of Spanish Open

TERRASSA, Spain, May 6 (UPI) -- Thomas Aiken closed with a birdie Friday in taking a 1-stroke lead halfway through the European Tour's Spanish Open.

Aiken on Friday turned in a second-consecutive 4-under-par 68 and is at 8-under 136 for the tournament. Pablo Larrazabal, who shot 2-under 70 Friday, is along in second at 7-under.

First-round leader Scott Jamieson was 3-over at one point Friday and rallied to end the round at even-par 72. He's tied with Alvaro Velasco, Anthony Wall and Romain Wattel for third at 6-under.

Velasco had the round of the day Friday with a bogey-free 6-under 66.

Aiken played the back nine of the Real Club de Golf El Prat first Friday and opened with a birdie. He also had a birdie at the 14th hole but bogeyed No. 16. He made the turn, however, at 2-under with a birdie at 18.

He also birdied No. 1 and, after five pars, had a birdie at the seventh hole. While he had a bogey at the par-3 eighth, a closing birdie at No. 9 put him in first.
