MLB: Cincinnati 3, Houston 2

CINCINNATI, May 4 (UPI) -- Jay Bruce doubled in the final run in a three-run ninth inning Wednesday, lifting the Cincinnati Reds to a 3-2 victory over the Houston Astros.

The Reds had been held to one hit by Houston starter Aneury Rodriguez and four relievers going into the ninth when they connected against Brandon Lyon (3-2) for four hits, a walk and all three of their runs without making an out.

Lyon was staked to a 2-0 lead but walked Drew Stubbs to open the inning and Chris Heisey followed with a single, with Stubbs taking third. Joey Votto then singled in Stubbs.

Brandon Phillips tied the score with a single that got Heisey home and Bruce slapped the first pitch he saw from Lyon down the right-field line for a double that scored Votto.

That gave Francisco Cordero (2-0) the win but Cincinnati starter Travis Wood only allowed five hits in six innings. Three of those hits came in the third inning.

J.R. Towles opened the Houston third with a double and advanced on a sacrifice by Rodriguez. After Michal Bourn walked, Jason Bourgeois singled in Towles and Hunter Pence added another RBI single for the 2-0 lead.
