Power repeats as Indy Car champ in Brazil

SAO PAULO, May 2 (UPI) -- Verizon Team Penske's Will Power collected his second Indy Car victory of the season Monday by defending his 2010 win at the Itaipaya Sao Paulo Indy 300.

Rain caused the race to be suspended after 14 laps Sunday and a light rain fell throughout Monday's 41 laps on the 2.53-mile course.

Power, who has started on the pole in each of the four Indy Car races this season and won the Indy Grand Prix of Alabama, led the first 25 laps but Takuma Sato, driving for KV Racing Technology -- Lotus, then took the lead for 23 laps.

Power retook the lead when Sato pitted in the 49th lap and finished 4.7 seconds ahead of Service Central's Graham Rahal.

Power's total time for the 190.2-mile race was 2 hours, 4 minutes, 5.29 seconds.

Ryan Briscoe, racing for Penske Logistics, was third and Kellogg's Dario Franchitti was fourth.

Power, who also has a second-place finish this season, leads the drivers' standings with 168 points. Franchitti is second with 154 points and Telemundo/Newman Haas Racing's Oriol Servia (110 points) sits in third after a fifth-place finish in Sao Paulo.
