NBA: Miami 99, Boston 90

MIAMI, May 1 (UPI) -- Dwyane Wade pumped in 38 points Sunday, powering the Miami Heat to a 99-90 win over Boston in the opening game of their conference semifinal series.

Wade displayed deadly accuracy, going 14-of-21 from the field and 8-of-9 from the free throw line.

James Jones came off the bench to pop in five 3-pointers en route to 25 points for the Heat.

LeBron James put in 22 points to go with six rebounds and five assists and Chris Bosh hauled down 12 boards as the second-seeded Heat grabbed the early advantage in their Eastern Conference semifinal series.

Ray Allen led third-seeded Boston with 25 points, connecting on five 3-pointers, and Paul Pierce contributed 19 points and seven rebounds before being ejected from the game with a second technical foul in the fourth quarter.

Pierce had first tangled with Jones when he came down hard on his back and then earned the boot after barking at Wade 59 seconds later.

The Celtics will try to even the series in Tuesday's Game 2.
