Thompson, 16, shares LPGA Classic lead

MOBILE, Ala., April 30 (UPI) -- Sixteen-year-old Alexis Thompson carded a 5-under-par 67 Saturday, earning a tie with Song-Hee Kim after three rounds of the Avnet LPGA Classic.

Thompson and Kim (2-under 70) were knotted at 7-under 209, one shot ahead of Amy Yang (72) at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail in Mobile, Ala.

Should Thompson hang on for the victory, she would smash the record of the youngest-ever LPGA Tour event winner. The record is held by Marlene Hagge, who won 1952 Sarasota Open at 18 years, 14 days. That, however, was only an 18-hole event. The record for a full tournament is 18 years, 9 months, 17 days, set by Paula Creamer at the 2005 Sybase Classic.

Tied for fourth place at 5-under 211 are Maria Hjorth (67), Suzann Pettersen (71) and Karen Stupples (72).
