OAKLAND, Calif., April 30 (UPI) -- Trevor Cahill threw seven scoreless innings to remain unbeaten Friday, lifting Oakland to a 3-1 victory over Texas.
The Rangers outhit the Athletics 11-8, but could not come through in clutch situations against Cahill, Grant Balfour or closer Brian Fuentes.
Oakland has won two in a row and the Rangers have lost four out of five.
Cahill (4-0) gave up seven hits and walked four. Balfour allowed two hits in his only inning of work, but struck out two, and Fuentes surrendered a run on two hits in the ninth to earn his seventh save.
Two of the Oakland runs were unearned thanks to three Texas errors.
A fielding error by center fielder Julio Bourbon in the third kept the inning alive and led to an RBI single by Kurt Suzuki.
Texas second baseman Ian Kinsler also made a throwing error in the seventh on a grounder from Suzuki, allowing Daric Barton to score. The only earned Oakland run came on Josh Willingham's fifth-inning double.
C.J. Wilson (3-1) suffered the hard-luck loss, allowing one earned run in seven innings with three strikeouts.
