MLB: Cleveland 9, Detroit 5

CLEVELAND, April 29 (UPI) -- Carlos Santana hit a grand slam homer with one out in the ninth inning Friday to give Cleveland a 9-5 victory over Detroit.

The Indians rallied from a three-run deficit in the seventh and then came through against Joaquin Benoit (0-1), who entered the game in the ninth as the fourth Cleveland pitcher.

It was Cleveland's fourth win in a row and Detroit's fourth straight loss.

Jack Hannahan opened the ninth with a single and gave way for pinch-runner Adam Everett, who moved to third on a base hit by Grady Sizemore.

Asdrubal Cabrera was intentionally walked to load the bases and Shin-Soo Choo struck out on three pitches.

That brought up Santana, who lifted a 3-1 pitch over the wall in right for his fourth homer of the year.

Santana's shot made a winner out of Chris Perez (1-1), who needed 11 pitches to get through a perfect top of the ninth.

Detroit had a 5-2 lead going into the seventh, but the Indians tied it in that inning on a solo blast by Matt LaPorta and a two-run homer by Cabrera.
